Malachi Lily is a neurofunky, Philly-born, agender, liminal Black person. Lily writes speculative fiction and metaphysical commentary through magick, Black-anarcho politics, and nature wisdom to deconstruct colonial fears around the unconscious, sexuality, and femininity.
Through queer romance, horror, and ecological study, their stories reside at the crux of internal and external revolution, where the erotic serves as a transformative catalyst, and horror functions as a tool for healing our relationship with our planet.
Their illustrations have appeared in In These Times, Hachette Publishing, The Baffler, Autostraddle, Forward Together, Soujourners for Justice, and more.
They were a 2023 Tinhouse and Roots.Wounds.Words fellow, and in 2024, a writing resident at Stove Works, Queer Materials Lab, and Chateau d’Orquevaux. Lily is a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association Fellow, a Trans Journalists Association Fellow, a columnist at Inglenook Lit, and a culture writer for In These Times.
